1. Admission Requirements

Which level of English do I have to have and how is this going to be checked upon?
To be able to follow the lectures, at least good passive English knowledge is essential. For discussions and presentations you should naturally also be able to speak English.
We assume every applicant knows best for himself/herself his/her language abilities. Therefore we do not check your English knowledge via tests, but trust your self assessment. If you have already completed certificates as GMAT or TOEFL e.g., you are welcome to enclose these in your application.

According to which criteria will I be admitted?
Besides the formal criteria (completed higher education or alternatively equal acceptability) your motivation is crucial. In your motivation letter and during your interview with the academic directors you should be able to give plausible reasons for choosing this course. If there are many applicants with similar qualifications, we will also consider the date of your application as a criterion.

What is the admission process?

If you have decided to participate in the course, we kindly ask you to complete our application form and to return it to us, together with all required documents.

After the application deadline all applicants are invited to a personal interview with the academic directors. During this interview we will assess if all admission requirements are met, if you are qualified for the MBA (Master of Business Administration) Program and if the program is able to fulfil your expectations.
Based on a thorough analysis of all applications the dean of the agendas of further education and the academic directors will decide on the admission. Finally we will send you the contract of participation and payment agreement for return with your signature.

In which language do I have to send in my CV and letter of motivation?
Due to the language of the course, being English, we kindly ask you to prepare your application portfolio in English. We will then also get a first impression of your English skills.

Is a filled-out application form already binding?
Once you send in your application documents, you are not yet financially liable. We then just received all information necessary for the admission process and we are therefore able to keep you updated on the further steps. You are not legally bound until you sign the contract of participation and the payment agreement after you have been successfully admitted to the program.

Which specific circumstances do I have to take into account as a foreign applicant?
As a precondition for admission to a postgraduate study at TU Wien we have to check your ORIGINAL high-school diploma and university diploma (the document in which you were awarded your academic degree). If these documents were issued in a foreign country they also have to be translated and/or authenticated.
There are three kinds of authentication

  • No Authentication
  • Authentication by Apostille
  • Diplomatic Authentication

What makes a postgraduate Master Program special?
In contrast to a doctorate, which has the objective to verify the student's ability to work scientifically, a Master Program offers you a broad and practically orientated postgraduate further education. Besides a highly qualified and well organized professional education the program will also give you access to an extensive network of experts. The academic degree "Master of Business Administration", granted by the TU Wien in cooperation with STU Bratislava, is internationally recognized.

What makes this MBA Program unique?
This MBA Program is unique throughout Europe's postgraduate education landscape. The transnational studies in Vienna and Bratislava, with international experts as lecturers, will give students insight into every aspect of the industry. Knowledge of automotive technology, as well as business subjects with a special focus on production and logistics, are key success factors in the Central European (CENTROPE) Region of Vienna/Bratislava. This program is a good combination between theory and practice. In order to get an impression of the practice some lectures will take place directly in companies. Due to the diversity of OEMs from Germany, France, Japan, Korea and other countries in the CENTROPE Region students can also get to know the cultural aspects of the different companies.

How practice-orientated is the MBA Program?
We are convinced that one should not only learn in the class room but also in the working environment through putting into practice the theoretical knowledge immediately. For this reason, your master’s thesis should, as far as possible, describe a problem of your working environment. During the fourth semester you have the opportunity to thoroughly deepen a topic of your choice supported by an expert of the faculty.

Moreover you are also able to benefit from the long standing experience of the others: The course has been developed in co-operation with internationally renowned experts and professors. In the frame work of "Fireside chats" top managers of the automotive industry are invited. For each module experts will be invited to give their knowledge related on the topic. As s result students will learn not only the theory but also at the same time the practical realization in real world.
During field trips/excursions as well as on-site lectures you will also visit different production facilities and benefit from the first hand experience of the production sites etc.

What career prospects are there, after completing the program?
The automotive industry & its component suppliers are, without any doubt, a booming segment especially in Central and Eastern Europe. There is a tremendous need on well educated managers and experts. Because there has not been a postgraduate education program in this industry yet, the graduates of this unique program have a good career prospects.
The comprehensive education will provide you with the knowledge to work in different areas. Participants, who have already worked in companies which operate in these sectors, may have a quicker promotion due to the internationally recognized academic degree.
Furthermore because of the international network of experts new and interesting career prospects are good.

4. Organizational conditions

Is there a maximum number of participants?
In our opinion a sensible and quality-orientated work is only guaranteed in a group of max. 25 participants. This ensures an extremely good relationship between teachers and students.

Where will the courses take place?
The courses will take place mainly at TU Wien and the Slovak University of Technology. Lectures directly in the production site are planned as well. In the beginning there is an outdoor module for team building, ice breaking etc. outside of Vienna.

How much time will I have to allocate for the whole course?
The first three semesters comprise 45 academic hours of compact and focussed teaching. In addition you will receive scripts and/or handouts for every module for your individual preparation and repetition of the contents. Furthermore you will need to spend time on learning for written exams, write homeworks, project works, take home exams, etc. (depending on each module/lecturer).
During the writing of the master’s thesis in the fourth semester you will make individual appointments with your personal supervisor as you may need them. In the beginning of the second, third, and fourth semester one day is scheduled for the examinations.

Is there an obligation for attendance during the lectures?
Generally the attendance of the participants is required at all modules. We assume that you have chosen the program because of your interest in the topic and therefore you would want to use a great part of the lectures offered. Furthermore we assume that your participation in this MBA Program is well considered and your attendance will then be in your own interest. The hours of lecture will be blocked, so that they are ideally compatible with your job. Moreover we have already fixed the dates for the lectures of the complete program, to facilitate your personal planning.  The students are expected to attend all class sessions unless they have legitimate reason, e.g. serious illness or emergencies. When a student misses a portion of a module for a legitimate reason, a plan for making up the missed class will be made – in accordance with the lecturer. In this case, lecturer decide in co-ordination with the Program Management if the participant needs to take on an additional assignment (e.g. written assignment) as a result of the missing participation in class, or if simply his/her grade is adequately adjusted. If the student misses the entire module possibilities of repeating the module need to be coordinated with the Academic Directors and the Program Management.

Are there scholarships available?
We put an effort into giving as many potentials as possible the opportunity to take part in the course by offering scholarships. Therefore we are always trying to find sponsors.

How I do get the grade of a lecture?
The course grade is always based on a student’s performance in class (active involvement, presentations, group assignments, contributions to discussion, etc.) as well as performance outside class (pre- and post-course assignments). Each lecturer makes a personal decision about the grading.

What should I do in case I fail an examination?
In case your grade in a module is "nicht genügend" ("unsatisfactory") e.g. you fail, the module has to be repeated at one of following examination days. A negatively graded module can be repeated max. three times.

Why are you asking for a minimum two years professional experience?
This program is dedicated to educate the managers. Therefore the applicants should have the minimum  two years experience. With minimum two years experience the applicant have an overview about the organization of the companies etc.

For different reasons I cannot finish the master’s thesis on time. What should I do to complete the program?
You may finish the master’s thesis in the next semester. You’ll be enrolled one more semester. Additionally you are supposed pay for the further enrollment.

How can I pay the tuition fee?
The tuition fee is payable in advance before program start. In exceptional cases there is a possibility to pay the fees with two installments.

Is there an E-Learning Platform for the program?
CECNet is available as the e-learning platform. Participants can download the teaching materials and upload project works, home works, take home exams, etc..

Are there additional costs beside tuition fee?
The tuition fee includes the learning materials and refreshments during the breaks.
Possible additional costs are

• personal expense during the program
